Community Update 05/11/20

Hello wonderful La Tierra Community,

I hope this email finds you all safe and healthy. I miss seeing everyone in our community so much and look forward to the day we can come together on campus again to celebrate and reflect.

Right now we are waiting for guidance from the Arizona Department of Education on when we will begin school in the fall. We are hoping to start when we normally would (August 6th, 2020) but we will keep you posted with any new information that we receive.

As you know, your child’s classroom teacher has been working hard to offer “educational opportunities” on a weekly basis which cover the core subject areas of reading, writing and math as well as science and social studies. Teachers have also been offering Zoom sessions and posting wonderful content on our La Tierra Youtube page. We hope your child/children have had time to take advantage of some or all of these educational opportunities but we understand that this is an extremely difficult and stressful time and sometimes there isn’t enough time in the day. That being said, regardless of assignments completed during this 4th quarter off campus,  your child WILL progress to the next grade if they were at or above grade level for 3rd Quarter. If you have questions about where your child is academically according to 3rd quarter grades, please contact your classroom teacher directly. Again, grades for second semester and promotion to the next grade level for the upcoming school year will be based solely on 3rd quarter learning and assignments and NOT on anything completed (or not completed) during this 4th quarter. We believe that learning at home during this time is important to maintain and go beyond current academic levels but guidance from ADE dictates that we cannot count this learning towards report card grades or promotion to the next grade level. Report cards will be mailed home the first week of June like normal and stay tuned for our socially distanced version of Passages Ceremony for this school year.

Thank you so much for your time and please feel free to contact me at any time if any of the above information is unclear or you have questions about anything else.

Again, I miss seeing all of your smiling faces and look forward to seeing you all soon!

Best wishes and happy belated Mother’s Day to all of you fabulous Moms and Grandmas- I hope you were all showered with love.

Thanks so much,

Rhette Buller
